The Day The Media Died

June 9, 2009

It’s been a rough week for the media business — with Nielsen’s MonitorPlus announcing that 1Q media spending is down and that Radio and Records parent company Nielsen will cease printing of that trade magazine (wow. I said Nielsen twice in one sentence. Imagine that!)

Perhaps everyone could use a little pick-me-up at this point. Or maybe this is a reality check of gallows humor.

Check out the American Pie parody “The Day The Media Died,” aka Mad Avenue Blues. Author LMcDuff08 really knows his/her stuff — this piece is both cleaver and well executed. One warning: it’s as long as the original Don McLean song. But it’s worth it.
