Google TV Scores NBC Cable

September 9, 2008

Google TV has inked a deal with NBC Universal to sell scatter advertising on on Sci Fi, Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, Sleuth, and Chiller, according to sources. More channels may be added later.  Scatter is anthing unsold after the upfront.

The companies will also explore ways to adapt Google TV as a sales and delivery platform for selling spot TV in local markets

The service, launched a little more than 18 months ago, leverages the auction technology of Google Ads to create an electronic TV marketplace. The only previous customer for the service was Dish Network’s local avails. Google is using audience profile data from Nielsen to model demographics from set top boxes to procide estimates and audience posting.

According to SubmitEdge, NBC Universal will be earning about $6 billion a year from the deal.
