Family Guy Fans To Get Google Web-only Mini-sodes of New Series

June 30, 2008

“Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy” is coming soon to a small screen near you. But you won’t be able to watch it on television…unless you drag a cable from your PC to your TV.

The Family Guy creator will offer 50 two minute episodes “animated versions of the one-frame cartoons you might see in The New Yorker, only edgier” for distribution via Google’s AdSense advertising system targeting Family Guy’s young adult male-skewing audience. McFarland is getting a cut of all ad revenue generated from running the series. He will also have an additional revenue stream creating original animations for commercials that will run in “Cavalcade” on the Google Content Network.

Finding the right program length will be a challenge for Google and MacFarlene. “Cavalcade will offer 50, two minutes shows, short enough to let people watch the whole thing while still crunching in enough ads,” says Sardar Mohkim Khan, who writes for StartupMeme technology blog. “Whatever the plan turns out, it sounds pretty interesting, at least there will be no more boring text based ads to drive all life away from browsing.”
